The conversion of Intruder Prevention is complete.

The other day I picked up an excellent (and more importantly, updated) book on search engine optimization (SEO) that gave great examples of how to maximize the usage of key words and phrases without overdoing it, how to write better META descriptions and key words, and how to write more persuasive articles to lead to better conversion rate optimization (CRO).

Needless to say, once I went through the first two chapters and saw the example website that was successfully converted from a nothing website into one of the top websites in its category, I was inspired.  I went straight to my Intruder Prevention website and spent the next two days working hard on the new SEO techniques.

– UPDATE – I no longer own or maintain www.IntruderPrevention.com

Intruder Prevention was the first website that I created, and back then I was focused on making it an informative website with lots of useful and helpful links with people concerned about home security issues.  I had a lot of “free links” to companies on many of my pages despite the fact that I also had Google AdSense ads on the outer columns.  Back then I was hoping that people would still click on those sponsored links in pursuit of further knowledge or for shopping for home security items.

The few clicks that I did receive actually paid quite a bit of money.

So after reading those first few chapters of that book, I decided to make a few major changes to that website.

The biggest change was the removal of every single one of the “free links.”  Most of the security companies discussed in the articles were in the sponsored links anyway, so there was still a direct link for people to learn more information anyway.  The only difference was that if they clicked on one link I would receive a little bit of money, but if they clicked on the other link on the screen I wouldn’t receive a dime.  The amount of work that I did was the same, and the amount of information on the other end of the link was the same as well between the two links.  So why have any “free links” on the website?

So all of those are gone.

I also went through and rewrote most of the articles on that website.  There weren’t that many to rewrite, but that was still time consuming enough as I worked more key words and phrases into the text at key areas and also tried to make the article more persuasive.  It’s all real information and as accurate as possible, but now I’m trying to get the people to explore the topic even further by clicking on one of the sponsored links.

In addition to doing all of he rewriting of articles, I added three more articles to the website, further increasing the amount of information and topics relating to home security systems and other security problems.  There were enough changes to the website and it has a newer look and feel to it, so I’ll go ahead and label it as being version 4.0.

I’ll be anxious to see if there will be any increases in natural search engine traffic over the next few months and how many more people on average start clicking on the sponsored links.  It helps that the website is not a scam and has quite a bit of real information on the subject.  I used to work in that industry as one of my first professional jobs after graduating from college.

My goals for this week are to find ways to improve my Florida Project website the same way, learn more about SEO and PPC advertising, learning more about building websites in Macromedia Dreamweaver, and if possible to purchase my next domain and begin building the websites for my next major project.  I may be going out of town for a few days at the end of the week, so not all of those goals may be accomplished by the end of next weekend.
