Trendy Top (women’s fashion) – A Marketing Review

In the fun-filled and always changing world of women’s fashion, apparently it has been deemed fashionable to wear short shirts and low-cut jeans.

Tucking in a shirt or wearing long enough clothing to cover your lower abdomen has been deemed “un-cool.”

And now, as shocking as it may be, apparently some women don’t like it when their shirt rises, unveiling their bare skin and other secrets.  Each time they reach up, bend over, or even sit down, that shirt lifts and presents her lower abdomen to the world.

How can women prevent this problem?

Should they wear longer shirts?  How about using a belt?  Maybe it’s best for them to just accept the problem, always wear sexy underwear, and advertise their intentions with a tramp stamp.

Can anything be done to help those poor women, victims of today’s fashion standards?

Thankfully, such a product does exist in the form of the Trendy Top.  It’s now possible to avoid having guys stare whenever you sit down or bend over.  Well, maybe stare a little less.  If a sexy woman bends over, no matter what her clothing, many guys will still check out her curves.

Let’s take a closer look at the Trendy Top and see just how it’s being presented to John Q. Public.

Trendy Top TV commercial --- Oh no! The unmentionables have been spotted!

Trendy Top TV commercial — Oh no!  The unmentionables have been spotted!

Immediately upon sitting, all eyes are locked onto the girl’s lower back and underwear.  Some girls use this to their advantage, using clever tattoos and other sights to attract attention.  Others dislike this feature of today’s fashion.

Trendy Top TV commercial --- Reaching up and showing off the slightly flabby stomach.

Trendy Top TV commercial — Reaching up and showing off the slightly flabby stomach.

The other side of the fashion problem is evident as this woman reaches up high, displaying her slightly flabby stomach.  Does she believe in wearing longer shirts?  Nope.  Does she enjoy eating snacks?  Apparently yes.

Trendy Top TV commercial --- It looks like a girdle and covers you like a blanket.

Trendy Top TV commercial — It looks like a girdle and covers you like a blanket.

It’s the Trendy Top!

It may look like a girdle, and it may wrap you as snugly as a blanket, but it’s still called a “T.”  Why it’s called a T, I really don’t know.  A t-shirt normally is “T” shaped and has sleeves for your arms.  This, on the other hand, looks like a great big leg warmer for your gut.

Trendy Top TV commercial --- You'll be lookin' lean and sexy in no time!

Trendy Top TV commercial — You’ll be lookin’ lean and sexy in no time!

Oh, look how that black Trendy Top clashes with the purple top and blue jeans!  Isn’t that just so chic or what?

Notice how the model is wearing a tight shirt.  I wonder how people will comment when they see that the black clothing stops around her upper waist.  Would a tight fitting undershirt (or partial shirt like the Trendy Top) be fashionably acceptable if a woman was wearing a loose fitting shirt over it?

As far as the model looking lean, it probably helps that she’s on the skinny side.  How “lean” would the waistline look for an average or larger woman?

Trendy Top TV commercial --- Sit down with absolute and complete confidence in the product.

Trendy Top TV commercial — Sit down with absolute and complete confidence in the product.

Disregard any inner voices convincing you that the product is secretly rising up your pants, threatening to expose your lower back once again.  Give it absolute confidence that it’ll stay in place and always keep you covered.

In the commercial, it looks like the Trendy Top is nearly at the top of the girl’s jeans.  I wonder how well the elastic-like material holds after using the product a few times.  It always annoyed me when the elastic at the end of my sweatshirt sleeves lost its elasticity, allowing the sleeves to slide up and down my wrists.  Is there any threat of a similar problem happening with the Trendy Top?

Trendy Top TV commercial --- It's as easy as your friend's slutty sister.

As the TV commercial claims, you just step into it and slide it up to your waist.  That’s it.  If we somehow didn’t figure out how to use the product, the TV commercial shows it to us a few times.

Trendy Top TV commercial --- It s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s!!!

Trendy Top TV commercial — It s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s!!!

Worried about the wearing the Trendy Top while making multiple trips to the dessert bar at Golden Corral?  No problem there as the stretchiness of the product has got you covered!  You can keep stuffing your face and filling your gut, and the product will just expand with you.

Again though, I just wonder how well the Trendy Top will stay in place, the sole purpose of it, after it has been stretched a few times.  Is there any danger of it becoming loose and sliding up and down with your shirt?

Trendy Top TV commercial --- It'll make you flip for joy!

Trendy Top TV commercial — It’ll make you flip for joy!

One of the examples of the Trendy Top shows a woman doing some flips, demonstrating that the product will stay in place.  As expected, the Trendy Top stays in place the entire time.

Hooray!

Trendy Top TV commercial --- Keeping you covered . . . barely.

Trendy Top TV commercial — Keeping you covered . . . barely.

Notice how the top of her jeans is just barely covered by the bottom of the Trendy Top.  Will her lower back still be covered the next time she squats down in the store?

Trendy Top TV commercial --- Available in all sizes from small to, errr, medium.

Is it just me, or do the two women look like they have identical waistlines?

The Trendy Top TV commercial advertises the fact that the product is available in all sizes, but this part of the commercial doesn’t do the best job making it clear.  Both women look nearly identical.  It’s not like we’re seeing a wide variety in sizes, such as a skinny model on one side and a walrus on the opposite.

Trendy Top website --- ordering page

Trendy Top website — ordering page

According to the ordering page on the Trendy Top website, the product can be ordered in three sizes:  small/medium, large, and extra large.  It would have been nice if the TV commercial made a distinction between the larger sizes.

One of my pet peeves with these as-seen-on-TV product websites is that they don’t always make things absolutely clear in the ordering process.  In this case, the ordering page is telling you about selecting the sizes and number of “Buy 2 Get 2 Free” sets of the Trendy Top.  Does this mean that all of the Trendy Tops (both regular and “free” sets) will arrive in the same size, or can you have a few colors in one size and others in a different size?

Normally, all of the sets, both regular and “free”, arrive in the same size that you initially select.  It’s rare for these as-seen-on-TV companies to split an order and have the “free” items arrive in different sizes, or depending on the promotion, in different colors.  I’d just like it if the ordering pages made it clear before people hit the “SUBMIT” button.

Trendy Top TV commercial --- The BIG promotion!

Trendy Top TV commercial — The BIG promotion!

At the end of the commercial we’re hit with the usual big promotion.  Take note that the current offer on the company’s website is actually better, also throwing in a set of Style Snaps.  You may remember that Style Snaps temporarily hem the bottom of your pants and jeans, making the look good no matter your choice in footwear.

The GRAND TOTAL for the product comes to $25.90 ($10 + $7.95 P&H + $7.95 (P&H for two “free” Trendy Tops)) for a total of four Trendy Tops and sixteen Style Snaps.  Considering the lightweight cotton material and relatively small size of the Trendy Top, it seems a bit odd that you end up paying more for the P&H than for the actual product.  Then again, that’s how many as-seen-on-TV promotions work.

WARNING – Be careful if you enter your credit card company and press the “Submit” button.  Many of these as-seen-on-TV company websites do NOT give you a final confirmation screen before accepting your CC number.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Trendy Top is a product of a glaring problem in today’s world of fashion.

It’s fashionable to wear short shirts and low-cut jeans, but not all women like showing off their lower backs and underwear.  Despite that, they still want to wear the fashionably short and potentially revealing clothing.  Do you want to have a piece of cake and eat it too?

An easy solution would be to just get longer shirts.  The longer shirts can either hang over or be tucked into the pants.  No problem there.  The pants can even be further secured with a belt, ensuring that you’ll stay as covered as desired.

But for those women who don’t want to wear longer shirts but still desire some kind of covering for their lower back and abdomen, that’s where something like the Trendy Top comes into play.  One of its selling points is that it’s basically a shirt extender despite the fact that it’s a different color and worn underneath your shirt.

The Trendy Top is presented as a really simple yet effective solution.  As if you didn’t grasp that point within the first thirty seconds, virtually all of the product’s selling features are repeated over and over again for the remainder of the two-minute advertisement.  I’d imagine that there’s only so much that you can say about a really, really simple product that tries to “fix” a by-product of today’s fashion.

Ahhhh, the joys of women’s fashion.
