Perhaps They Should Have Told Someone First

So today was the scheduled photo op day for one of the VC-25 Air Force One 747s along with two F-16s in New York City.

The only problem is that the White House didn’t bother to warn the city’s residents first.

So naturally, the New Yorkers panicked and evacuated out of their high rise buildings as the massive airliner raced by the Statue of Liberty and other buildings with the fighters appearing to be in hot pursuit.

Weekend Racing at Phoenix and Long Beach

This weekend’s racing schedule was one of the better ones for both NASCAR and IndyCar.

The NASCAR race was a Saturday night race at Phoenix, AZ, while the IndyCar series had their race at Long Beach, CA on Sunday afternoon.

First of all, that was a good win for Mark Martin at Phoenix.  He’s had several good races at the past few races this year, and it was good to see him finally put another car into victory lane.  So far this year he’s had three pole positions and a win.

April 15th – Tax Day

April 15th is a day that many Americans dread.

It’s tax day.

It’s the symbolic day that people watch the government take their hard-earned money and spend it as they see fit, or as they like to say, for the good of the country.

“Hoppy” Easter!

This particular rabbit would like to extend his greetings and wish everybody out there a safe and enjoyable Easter holiday.

You wouldn’t want to make him angry.

Possible Severe Weather Outbreak Today

Just when you thought it was safe to enjoy a Friday (Good Friday for that manner), it looks like the southeastern U.S. will be in the danger zone for severe weather.  This time the bull’s eye is right over Atlanta, GA.

Website updates – April 9-10, 2009

First of all, my scanner is starting to make strange noises.

I’m fearing that this is an early sign that the end may be near for my cheap scanner.  I only use it for my Florida Project website, but I’ve got lots of scanned material already out there and still a lot more material to scan and add to that website.  I also have a lot (thousands, actually) of digital pictures to edit and add to the site, so for the time being I’ll be focusing more on the pictures and a little bit less on scanning.  The photo pages are excellent when it comes to SEO and generating new traffic to that website.

My other big update is that I brought my Local, State & National website back to life and posted several articles out there.

Single Versus Multi-Hand Video Poker

One of my favorite casino games is video poker.

I like the fact that it relies on more strategy than luck, and if you play it right, you can keep the house advantage to an absolute minimum.  I prefer card games versus slot machines, rolling dice, or watching a roulette ball go round and round before landing where I did not bet.

That’s not to say that I don’t like the dice.  I’m still learning how to correctly play craps, but for the time being, I’ve really been enjoying video poker.

Carbombs For All

So last night at the Wing, there were three guys at a table next to us having quite a few drinks.

Drinking is one of the main activities at Wild Wing Cafe in addition to enjoying the chicken wings and all 30+ wing flavors in addition to a full menu of other items and a usually great staff of hostesses, waitresses, and of course, the bartenders.  It’s easy to hang out there playing darts and shuffleboard while just having a good time with friends.  We’re there every Tuesday and some or all of our small group can usually be spotted there at some point over the weekend.

Last night was a little bit different as the table by us kept ordering one round after another of Irish carbombs.  They ended up each doing five carbombs over the course of an hour or so.  That’s just impressive.

I’ve had these before and they are pretty good.  You’re usually feeling pretty good after the first or second carbomb depending on your tolerance and experience with them.  I couldn’t image doing four of them let alone five without passing out and/or throwing up.

At least these guys were friendly drunks just out having a good time.  There was a minor scuffle there last week and ended up having a bunch of cops outside for a little while.  From what we’ve experienced the place has been usually quiet without that many incidents like that occurring.

Good times for all.

Pollen, Snow, Wind and Weather-Predicting Rats

Springtime is a little bit unusual for us this year in Atlanta, GA.

It’s spring break for the schools and many families are out on vacation, but those who left missed the rare bit of winter weather we experienced today.

Today we had that unlikely combination of white snow flurries landing on the yellow dusting of pollen covering everything in sight.

Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

So last Sunday was the first race of the 2009 IndyCar racing season.

It was so nice and such a relief to finally watch open-wheel racing again here in the U.S.

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m a huge fan of NASCAR and stock car racing, but I was raised as an open-wheel fan first and a stock car fan much later.

Start of the Danica Patrick season

In just about half an hour the green flag will wave and the start of the 2009 IndyCar racing season will have started.

And unfortunately, that means nearly non-stop coverage of Danica Patrick.  Yikes!

Welcome to Pollen Season

Springtime here in Atlanta, Georgia means the welcoming of warm air, occasional thunderstorms, and of course, the dreaded pollen season.

The “yellow snow” is here and pollen counts have already jumped into the “extremely high” brackets.

The only ending to pollen season is the passage of time and heavy rainfall to wash the cars, pavement, and everything else covered by the yellow dusting.

A Visit to Medieval Times

Last Saturday my family and I had the opportunity of attending a dinner show at the popular Medieval Times restaurant.  We happen to have one of them here in the metro Atlanta area at the Discover Mills mall up Interstate 85.

This was our first time experiencing one of those fancy and elaborate dinner shows, and I must say that we were all impressed by the time it was finished.
